BCM206 Pitch

Hey ho,

Making things on the internet might seem easy but it’s a bloody nightmare for me so I thought I’d dive back into another Communication and Media Subject to push my boundaries, patience and humour once again. This semester I have decided to join the Building 29 resource challenge as it affords me the chance to work in a team and create something meaningful for all you legends in the digital diary of UOW. My assigned role is to create the actual videos surrounding all of the tools available in the Maker studio at Wollongong Uni and assist with curating some banger content to get all you folk charging down the door in a frenzy to make your own dungeons and dragons dice! In this initial stage my aim is to document the how to’s on things like the 3D printer, VR sets and embroidery machine that are at our disposal and begging to be tinkered with.

My initial research has been scoping out what’s already been created in this vein and decipher why they are popular and how those creators are going about it and then from this information make a plan with my squad, get in there and get playing! With a follow cam of course. Hang on do we have a drone?

BUT my vision is that the videos and content are not too dry…. 40 minute explainers can be a snore fest, so getting to the punch will be implicit in Audience capture. This little video sets out my intention…. but wait, why the flip am I talking about a podcast as well?

Ok so the resource challenge is a definite but throughout the last few years I have been fascinated by plants and mental health and as this is a growing area (scuse pun) of interest in the community, I foresee a need to connect all of the pieces in this puzzle, in this puzzling time psychedellicaly. There is an absolute mega library on the stuff spanning back to the mishaps of Tim Leary but a lot of younger folk aren’t even aware of him. Whose got all day to listen to Duncan Trussell, Tim Ferris and Jo rogan and read about peoples journeys to the Amazon as they seek out plant medicine alternatives for alleviating persistent mental health qualms? As a journalism student this is an avenue to connect with people participating in clinical trails and take the communities temperature on all this and hopefully shed more awareness.

Podcasts provide a lovely respite from screen time and that is why I have chosen that modality. Watch this space for an expedition down the rabbit hole. Above ground, the Building 29 resource challenge is …
